Frequently Asked Questions
Is it true that Moxie passed away? What happened?
Yes, Moxie passed away in March due to complications resulting from a routine knee surgery.
She had torn the CCL ligaments in her knees while running and playing in Baja California as we traveled south on our route towards the Antarctic Ocean. She went into surgery at our trusted veterinary hospital in Guatemala and passed away quite suddenly five days later.
We were heartbroken.
What's next for GoRUFFLY Around the World?
We were heartbroken after Moxie’s passing.
We decided that the best way to grieve and heal was to go on a pilgrimage to celebrate our travels with Moxie. During A GoRUFFLY Pilgrimage in July 2023, we visited other people doing extraordinary things with their dogs and learned about the special bond they share.
Now we’ve welcome a new copilot into our pack. Whimsy has big paws to fill but she’s proving to be a genuine article all her own as we now continue the GoRUFFLY Around the World adventure together!
How does Whimsy travel on Jess’s motorcycle?
Whimsy rides in RUFFLY’s K9 Moto Cockpit motorcycle dog carrier on the back Jess’s Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro motorcycle. RUFFLY has custom built the K9 Moto Cockpit for hundreds of dog-loving motorcyclist all around the world. Check out our detailed Gear Guide video for more information about the K9 Moto Cockpit.
How do you ensure that Whimsy is as safe as possible on the motorcycle?
Whimsy’s big sister and predecessor, Moxie, traveled tens of thousands of kilometers in the K9 Moto Cockpit without an injury of any kind. The Cockpit’s cushioned design kept her safe and comfortable while enjoying an authentic riding experience with Jess.
Like Moxie before her, Whimsy rides securely harnessed into the Cockpit motorcycle dog carrier at all times and she wears eye protection.
Check out this Gear Guide video about how to secure the dog in their Cockpit and our Rider’s Guide article for a detailed breakdown of the safety considerations.
What is Girl Up?
No matter their background, girls have the power to transform themselves, their communities, and the world around them. Girl Up is a global movement of empowered young women leaders who defend gender equality. Through leadership development training, Girl Up gives girls the resources and platform to start a movement for social change wherever they are.
For those who stand with us in this movement, there is no rest until we achieve equal rights for every girl. Because when girls rise, we all rise.
Girl Up was founded by the United Nations Foundation in 2010, and continues to work across a global community of partners to achieve gender equality worldwide.
