Using all of these security loops improves riding safety because it distributes the forces and stresses more broadly.
The front security loop is triple-reinforced with three independent box-stitch attachments. This creates multiple redundancies to prevent failure during a highly dynamic incident such as in an emergency stop or crash situation.
The rear waist belt is essential to maintain the proper laying-down riding position at all times during the ride and is absent from outdoor non-riding harnesses.
The waist belt avoids:
- Raising the butt and trying to wriggle the harness off over the head
- Somersaulting or wrenching during an sudden deceleration such as in an emergency stop or get-off

There are two major safety reasons for securing the dog's butt down when riding.
- In a hard stop or crash, the decelaration force causes the lower body to somersault forward, which can cause a wrenching or whiplash-like injury.
- If the dog is triggered to leap free to chase a cat or get food, they sometimes raise their butt and pull the harness off over their head. This endangers the dog and disrupts the vehicle when it is stopped or in motion.
How should I strap my dog into their Cockpit?
Some copilots will require different strapping setups depending on how they lay. The most common way to secure your copilot into their Cockpit is with three straps.
- Front anchor to chest loop
- Forward upper anchors to shoulder loop
- Rear upper anchors to waist loop

What are the best straps to use?
There are many quality straps that can be used to secure your dog into their Cockpit. We prefer and use ROK Straps because the moderate stretch means your dog can adjust their position for comfort during the ride even when the straps are secured tightly.
