SAFETY
The Cockpit is designed to protect just like a riding helmet.
The steel rails are rigid against impacts while the padded upholstery cradles the copilot inside. The tubular roll bar design has numerous precedents in Jeeps, ATVs, and other powersports applications.
On tarmac and off-road terrain, the dog straps in just like the rider straps their helmet on, and laying down improves the comfort and coverage. This extends the protection just as how a full-face helmet covers better than a skullcap.
In powdery conditions and slower more technical riding, strapping in versus unharness should be at the riderโs discretion.
COMFORT & ERGONOMICS
A comfortable and ergonomic ride improves safety and is essential to share a thrilling ride together.
Some motorcyclists and snowmobilers manage to ride with their big dog balanced on the tank or slung to their body in a backpack. Most of us will find that is uncomfortable and reduces our enjoyment and control.
Reaching arms and craning our head around the dog on the tank is physically taxing and biases our use of the controls and steering. On the other hand, strapping our dog to our back means that one is likely to cushion the otherโs fall in case of a get-off.
Instead, positioning your dog right behind you in their Cockpit ensures that both rider and copilot are comfortable, maximally protected, and closely sharing the ride together.
MOUNTING
Cockpits are mounted to hundreds of motorcycles across many dozens of models and model years.
Many of these successful installations, including on scooters, sport bikes, and cafe racers, present a far greater technical and structural challenge than most snowmobile models.
Most snowmobiles are outfitted with substantial load-bearing capacity for a human passenger, luggage, and spare fuel canisters, which means they offer all the necessary features:
- Robust frame or chassis
- Sturdy luggage or utility rack
- Ample locations for affixing mounting brackets
In many cases the Cockpit baseplate can be bolted directly to the luggage or utility rack behind the seat. In other cases, mounting hardware such as brackets, platforms, and risers, act as intermediaries between the snowmobile and the Cockpit, depending on the specific size, load, and layout.
The options and potential setups are nearly infinite and customizable to your specific uses and preferences. Likewise, you choose your Cockpit model. Select a model that includes an original, unmodified baseplate and perform your own installation handiwork.
Otherwise, select a custom mounting model. Youโll participate in a simple, online design process. It takes about 60 minutes of your time over three steps and most riders complete the process in about one week.
