In my perfect world, dogs would never spend a moment on-leash.
They would be free to wander and play because everyone would live far from busy streets and fast highways. For our afternoon walk, we would roam deep in the woods and, just in case, every dog would have perfect recall.
That off-leash world is a fantasy – or at least it is for most of us most of the time.
The real world has more rules than wild places and, where most of us live in cities, there are so many hazards to worry about.
That’s why we wait for the light to change and cross at crosswalks. That’s why we walk our dogs on leashes. Because seatbelts and guardrails and leashes too – they are necessary and important even if we wish we never had to use them.
That’s also why Knotted Leash is my favorite and least favorite RUFFLY creation.
The slender, padded handle teases my hand with comfort but it’s actually a tether that binds us together. It’s a tool I carry with us whenever we go out, but I’m happiest when it’s coiled in my hand or slung across one shoulder.
My favorite job for Knotted Leash is when it has nothing to do.
But I always have it for just-in-case.
