Everyone has a job in our pack.
For example, when it comes to feeding, I cook, we eat, and then Whimsy licks the dishes before Greg washes them.
Performing these jobs fulfills the important and routine upkeep of a family, but living extraordinary together happens through the contributions we each make to each other.
By contributions, I don’t mean how I prepare soup for Greg when he isn’t feeling well or how he lifts heavy things and opens stubborn jars for me – although I do and he does those things.
The contributions I mean are the encouragements, the nudges, and reminders that help us be our best selves.
This is where Whimsy’s role is essential for us to thrive.
She gives everything a dog has, which is true companionship and the reminder to take advantage of every moment together.
There are no gifts more rare or precious for human happiness, I think. They’re more important than anything you can buy or place you can travel, and something people often struggle to give each other.
What we try to give her in exchange is different in coin and currency but, I hope, equal in value. It’s the stimulation to ignite her every senses and rarely being left alone or separated from us.
When we each do our jobs, we live good together.
When we make our contributions, we live extraordinary together.
